The Archer-class Combat Cruiser can quite safely be termed one of the most dangerous vessels ever to have been designed. It was the first vessel to be designed jointly by the Corellian Engineering Corporation and Esran Croft Enterprises. The design aim was to build a ship killer, a vessel designed solely for the destruction of enemy ships. With its array of Heavy Rocket Launchers, the Archer accomplishes this goal with ease.

The design team originally rejected the use of slow heavy Rockets due to their distinct lack of speed making them easy to be intercepted and destroyed before reaching the target. Just before it was decided torpedoes would be used, a very simple idea emerged ... why not redesign the heavy rocket (which was originally slow to conserve space in fighter payloads) to be faster? This was done quickly, producing the Advanced Heavy Rocket, which carries the same payload as the standard variety, but is physically larger and can reach speeds just slower than that of a concussion missile.

However, the main weakness of the design is that it is not able to carry a large number of warheads (enough for a total of 6 waves) and the rest of its weapons configuration is not well suited to defensive actions. The rocket reloading mechanism is also prone to jamming. The average jam can take up to ten minutes to correct under normal conditions. And of course, if the shields were to fall and the armor surrounding the rocket launch tubes were breached, a catastrophic explosion would destroy the vessel. Like many Lorisian vessels, the Archer is powered by an ECE third generation singularity generator.
