The Armageddon-class Star Dreadnought was the successor to the Apocalypse-class Command Ship as the flagship of the Confederate Navy.

Details[]

During the late stages of the Durgasi Conflict, it was decided that the Confederacy needed a true flagship. Determined to show the power of the Confederacy, the Killian Shipyards came up with the Armageddon-class Star Dreadnought.

The Armageddon-class was 14 km long. Compared to the Executor-class, the Armageddon had increased starfighter capacity and an increased number of heavy turbolaser batteries. This was possible thanks to recent advances in miniaturization technology. The designers decreased the number of ion cannons, and concussion missile launchers, completely removed the regular turbolaser batteries. In their place, the Confederacy designed an intricate defense of five hundred point-defense laser cannons, capable of intercepting large warhead salvoes, as well as being up to the task of shooting down enemy starfighters. Finally, the shields were augmented through the use of four powerful shield generators which overlap, creating a much stronger shield than have been possible earlier. In addition, the designers added a backup shield generator of almost one-half of the normal shield strength. The armour was almost as strong as that of the Executor-class, thanks to a new durasteel alloy.

In addition to this, the Armageddon-class were fitted with the most powerful anti-matter reactor built by Killian Shipyards to date, giving it a relatively high speed; as well as a BC-7 (later updated to BC-7D) BioComp, which enabled target resolutions to be calculated much faster than previously possible.

These 10 engine ships had enough fire power to destroy entire fleets alone and were also used as command ships for Confederate Navy Fleets or planetary invasions. Like most Confederate ships, the Armageddon-class had an auxiliary bridge to take control of the vessel in the event the main bridge was taken out. These ships were also equipped with raw material recycling facilities, unlike the Apocalypse-class command ships. In a military sense, these vessels were somewhat impractical, since a smaller ship could fulfil its mission duties. Instead, the Armageddon symbolized the seemingly unlimited power and resources of the Confederacy. Armageddon-class Star Dreadnoughts were the largest class of ship ever constructed with the sole exception of the Imperial SSDs.

The Armageddon-class Star Dreadnought was created to provide the Confederacy with a truly massive ship worthy of commanding its fleet, but not be quite as economically draining as an Executor-class Super Star Destroyer, which could bankrupt a whole sector of the Galactic Empire. But the end of the Durgasi Conflict drained the budget and put the project on hold. The unfinished hull of the Pallida Mors remained at I-7, however.

Near the close of the Xen'Chi War, it was decided to commission the Pallida Mors, and after a record-short construction time, the massive vessel was commissioned and put under the command of First Admiral Eshtemoh Cosimo.
