General Description[]
The Armatus-class Assault Boat was the pet project of Jonathan Snow, CEO of Snow Industries and father of Bethany Snow, based on his experiments with the Cloakshape and Blade-32 starfighters. Unlike those ships, the Armatus is not so much of starfighter as it is a hybrid between a Skipray blastboat and a light shuttle. Snow reasoned that small capital ships often had limited space for support craft, which often tended to be very specialized into things like gunships, dropships, long-range shuttles, gigs, blastboats, etc. No matter which ships these captains chose, their capital ship would inevitably be able to perform some mission because of the lack of support craft. Snow consequently designed the Armatus to replace many of these starships by being able to do most of these jobs passably well. While not popular on larger starships which have more room to choose specialized craft, the Armatus is well-liked by smaller ships like frigates and corvettes who appreciate the multi-role nature of the craft which its synthesis of relatively high firepower, durability, and maneuverability. For these reasons, the craft is also popular with planetary governments affiliated with the New Republic. The main fault found by all customers with the Armatus is its lack of speed.
