Mainly a ground battle, the Battle of Svea was a two-pronged assault on the two major worlds in the Svea system, Svea Prime and Svea II.
Faced with an overwhelming mass of Confederate troops, the GWA forces in the system was quickly defeated.
The Battle[]
The battle commenced with the landing of nearly six million Army troopers, supported by some 200,000 drop troopers. Striking at eleven places at once, the Confederate forces overwhelmed the GWA defenders.
The attackers suffered horrendous casualties, with nearly 260,000 soldiers killed, wounded or missing. Nevertheless, the battle was a major Confederate victory. Several regiments proved themselves in the battle, earning praise from their commanders.
After the battle, a total of 27 Confederate Crosses and 79 Distinguished Service Medals were handed out, in addition to some 1100 Bronze, Silver and Gold Stars. Three regiments were awarded honoury cuff bands in recognition of their valiant actions during the battle.
Aftermath[]
Shortly after the battle, Grand Marshal Treuth was demoted to Brigadier and transferred to Army Head Quarters. His adjudant, Colonel Troy Famalof, was transferred along with Treuth. Both were put under investigation for incompetence. They were later cleared of the charges and was discharged from the military with honours. General Gafton Powell, commander of the Special Forces and a friend of Treuth, handed in his resignation and was honourably discharged. No investigation ever occurred. General George Retun and Captain Robert Grey, the victors of Svea II, was arrested by the military police and placed before a court-martial, charged with incompetence and war crimes. Both were convicted for incompetence (the charges for war crimes was dropped) - General Retun gave up his commission, and was honourably discharged. Captain Grey was demoted to Lieutenant and transferred to the Aksum Defence Force.
General Mark Lucas was promoted to Grand Marshal in Treuth's stead.
