- "The success of the Republic's war effort depends on us destroying that superweapon."
- — Hisani Sane
The Battle of Tangrene was the culmination of the Vanguard Fleet's efforts track down a mysterious CIS superweapon that was decimating Republic forces and their Jedi commanders during the Clone Wars.
Without any survivors, very little was known about the superweapon other than the fact that it appeared to literally tear apart the Republic's war machines and soldiers without any sign of using energy weapons.
Even though Tangrene was located deep behind Separatist lines, Jedi General Hisani Sane and Vice Admiral Reng Kasr agreed that a risky tactical strike was worth the chance to neutralize the enemy superweapon.
The Battle[]
- "You consider the battle over, do you? I may not be able to contact reinforcements, but I can certainly outlast your little blockade. You don't have the firepower to overwhelm our shields from orbit and you can't starve out an army of droids."
- — Sui Dasmana
Tangrene was defended by the forces of General Sui Dasmana who was known to be a shrewd commander, however his abilities were no match against Kasr's brilliant tactical maneuvers. The Separatist fleet in orbit was quickly decimated by the forces of the Vanguard Fleet and any transmissions sent from the planet were jammed to prevent reinforcements. However, A planetary shield prevented the Separatist base from being bombarded from orbit necessitating a battle on the ground to take it down.
The ground battle was also fairly one-sided. The Republic troops, led by Hisani, were some of the most well-trained and experienced soldiers in the war by that point. Dasmana's droid forces could do little to stop the Republic advance. With no other choice, Dasmana unleashed the superweapon to deal with the Republic ground troops.
The superweapon turned out to be a Cragmoloid Darksider known as Crix. Incredibly, Crix seemed to be nearly indestructible and possessed enough raw physical power to literally tear apart the Republic war machines and any troopers unfortunate enough to be caught in his path. After unsuccessfully trying to fight Crix with her lightsaber, Hisani was able to finally stop Crix's rampage by using Malacia to incapacitate him.
Hisani was able to hold Crix at bay long enough for Kasr to jury-rig a tractor beam projector to restrain Crix until a more permanent solution could be found to take him prisoner. With the defeat of his superweapon, Dasmana surrendered to the Republic forces shortly afterwards, ending the battle.
Aftermath[]
- "You're going to put this Crix in to carbon freeze? The chances of a living being surviving carbon freeze without using the proper facilities for such a procedure-"
"He'll survive. And even if he doesn't for some unforeseen reason, I'm fine with that outcome as well." - — Keffi speaking with Reng Kasr
In order to more permanently restrain Crix, the Darksider would be put into Carbon-Freeze using one of the factories on Tangrene. The Anaxes would then travel to Coruscant to drop off Sui Dasmana and Crix to be properly incarcerated. The rest of the Vanguard Fleet would be redirected to Kashyyyk to help reinforce the Republic forces there.
