Politicians are individuals that represent a group of people or society within a government. They usually have the power to create, change, or remove government policies. They can be found across many systems of government from democracies, to dictatorships, to monarchies. Common political positions include: mayors, governors, senators, and any head of state, such as a prime minister or chancellor. Royal titles, like king, queen, and emperor, can also be considered to be based in politics.

Although politicians are supposed to represent their people, there have been many examples of politicians becoming corrupt and acting in their own best interests. This has given rise to a widespread distrust of those who seek political power, although some have used such greed as a form of control - such as how Emperor Palpatine expertly manipulated his fellow senators into bringing about the rise of the Galactic Empire - others seek to stem such corruption.
