«The true prophet has arrived. I bring with me the death you seek.»
— Sivter to a group of Charon

The Charon Campaign consisted of a series of small, secretive battles conducted by the Cult of Shadow near the mid point of the War of Darkness. They were designed to provide Sivter with a force that would prove to be utterly devastating later in the conflict; the endless hordes of the Charon Death Cult.

In order to secure the loyalty of such a fanatical race, Sivter knew he had to become an object of worship. He devised the Charon Campaign to fulfill one of their only known prophesies: the coming of the Final Prophet of the Void. In order to achieve the title, he decided to wipe out a group of Charon considered to be heretics by the Death Cult: the Cult of Light. Sivter used the most powerful Dark Lords and deadliest killers within the Cult of Shadow to ruthlessly exterminate the Cult of Light. He personally dueled the Cult of Light's leader, the Illuminated One, and took his head as proof of his victory.

The last phase of the campaign involved crossing dimensions into Otherspace to personally meet with the Charon. Once there Sivter impressed upon their leader, Musa’krish, his rightful claim as their Final Prophet of the Void. He presented the head of the Illuminated One and demonstrated his great power in the Force. He also promised the leader of the Death Cult that he could free them from the bonds of Otherspace so that they could continue their mission of bringing death to all life.

It was enough to convince Musa’krish and he swore to follow Sivter's guidance. With the loyalty of the Charon obtained, Sivter was able to use Otherspace as a staging area to ready his unstoppable secret army for the final phase of his war...

History[]

Conquering the Cults[]

"Only limited minds believe there's such a thing as an impossible problem."
— Sivter

The willingness of the Cult of Shadow to accept just about anybody into their ranks allowed it to grow considerably in size by 17 ABY. Amidst the havoc of all the new cultists spreading their own brand of chaos across the galaxy, Sivter's most trusted agents were making targeted information raids and bringing back material wealth that allowed him to expand his reach ever further. The influx of resources would prove to be a key factor in setting the stage to begin the Charon Campaign.

With access to these growing resources, Sivter was able to learn everything he could about the Charon and their ideology. He soon realized that the Charon Death Cult would be the perfect tools to help fulfill his ultimate objective of remaking the Force. There were only two problems that Sivter would need to solve first: how to convince such a fanatical race to serve him and how to cross into Otherspace to meet with them in the first place.

Nelar

The Dark Lord Nelar Rel'ot.

While Sivter schemed ways to bring the Charon under his control, he tasked the Dark Lord Nelar Rel’ot with the seemingly impossible task of finding a way to travel freely to Otherspace and back. Nelar was a mathematical genius, well-versed in astrophysics thanks in part to his connection to the Force, but even his brilliance could only go so far when it came to fulfilling Sivter's orders. Although Nelar was able to create a prototype hyderdrive device to do the job, which he named the Otherdrive, he lacked the complex equations necessary to program it to reliably find the other dimension.

The solution would reveal itself once Sivter learned of the existence of a splinter group of Charon that had managed to find a way to escape the Charon Death Cult. These Charon, known as the Cult of Light, had somehow found a way to leave Otherspace and settle peacefully on several planets in Realspace. Sivter realized that the Cult of Light held the key to interdimensional travel and began to make plans about how best to use them to achieve his goals.

Eliminating the Cult of Light[]

"Cult of Light… meet the Cult of Shadow!"
— Crix

Once Sivter was sure that there were only three Cult of Light enclaves across the galaxy, he decided that the best way to complete his objectives would be a simultaneous strike against all three. Unless the enclaves were all destroyed at the same time, it was possible one of the enclaves could warn the others about being attacked or even ask for help from some other allies. Additionally, if any of the Cult of Light members realized what the Cult of Shadow was really after, they might destroy the information before Sivter could obtain it - thus making the whole endeavor worthless.

In order to prevent any failures at such a critical juncture, Sivter called upon some of his most powerful and reliable Dark Lords to handle the extermination of the Cult of Light. Crix was put in charge of eliminating the settlement on Chalacta, Arksis Nan was instructed to destroy the enclave on Trieron, and Sivter decided to handle the main Cult of Light colony on New Holstice himself since that was where he suspected he'd find the information he was after.

And so the mini-war of cult versus cult began...

Battle of Chalacta[]

"When the Brotherhood and the Adepts attempt to stop us - more the point - when they try to stop me, I will unleash the Schrai. Then we will crush them all."
— Crix

Of the three battles that were fought to wipe out the Cult of Light, the Battle of Chalacta could easily be considered the most complicated. Chalacta was the homeworld for two Force-based organizations: the Chalactan Adepts and the Brotherhood of the Twilight, so any aggressive activity on the planet would be quickly noticed. The battle would end up being even more problematic for the Cult of Shadow when the Sith Covenant also decided to interfere after receiving a vision of the Charon being released from Otherspace.

Crix was able to account for the Adepts and the Brotherhood by keeping them busy with Schrai attack swarms while he and the rest of his forces attacked the Cult of Light. The extermination was so swift and brutal that the battle was already effectively over by the time the Covenant showed up to try and stop it. The leader of the Covenant forces, Darth Obscurus, decided to try and kill the Cult of Shadow strike team instead as a last-ditch attempt to stop the vision of the Charon invading the galaxy from coming true.

Obscurus soon realized that he didn't have the means to put Crix down for good, so he tried to end the battle by collapsing the enclave structure on top of Crix. Although it did temporarily stop Crix and put an end to the battle, it wasn't enough to kill the Dark Lord. Crix and his surviving forces would leave Chalacta largely victorious, but the interference by the Covenant would also force Crix to abandon his plans of also wiping out the Adepts and the Brotherhood.
