The Charon Death Cult, also known as the Cult of Death, is the primary religious body formed by the Charon species during their time in their home dimension of otherspace. Led by the Prophet of the Void, the Charon preach that all life must return to the ‘Void of Death’ and they will employ whatever means necessary to see that all living creatures in the universe are exterminated. Once their task is completed, the Cult of Death’s grand purpose will be fulfilled and they will destroy themselves in order to make sure the universe is in a perfect state of entropy.
Their native dimension of otherspace has already suffered the ravages of the Charon and it is believed that most, if not all, species have been destroyed by the Cult of Death. However, the Charon have also become aware that there remains an entire dimension, realspace, that is full of life. Until the arrival of Sivter and the Cult of Shadow, the Charon had no way to cross the dimensional threshold unless by accident.
In 17 ABY, the Cult of Death was contacted by the Dark Master Sivter. The Defel claimed to be the true Prophet of the Void, and was able to back up his statement after demonstrating his power on the Charon, as well showing the severed head from the Cult of Death’s most powerful enemy, the Illuminated One of the Cult of Light. The current leader of the Charon at the time, Musa’krish, grew convinced of Sivter’s claims and pledged the services of the Cult of Death to him, and by proxy to the Cult of Shadow. Sivter would go on to use the Charon as his secret weapon in his War of Darkness.
The death cult's Charon Starships were outfitted with special Otherdrives that would allow them to cross from otherspace into realspace, but unbeknownst to the Charon, these otherdrives were specially coded to allow Sivter to activate and deactivate the drives whenever he wished. With his control over them secure, Sivter sent the Charon Death Cult to decimate the galaxy and was almost successful until Garrett G. Granth IV discovered Sivter's exploit and used it to destroy every Charon ship with an otherdrive.
With the otherdrives gone, the surviving Charon Death Cult were once again stuck in otherspace.
Although a countless number of Charon had perished in Sivter's war, an entire dimension filled with the Death Cult are still waiting to find a way back into realspace and continue their crusade.
