The power of Conscience Call is known by many names in pacifist Force traditions. The Jukre Star Sailors call it Awake My Soul. The Nuns of G'aav'aar'oon call it Upharsin, meaning The Broken Heart. The Fallanassi call it Consciousness of Guilt. Conscience Call is the name given it by the Ithorian priests, and popularized by one of their number, Boolon Murr, who became a Jedi Knight.
The vast majority of sentient beings have some level of conscience. The vast majority of Darksiders learn to ignore their consciences to the point that they are no longer significantly troubled by guilt. This 'callus' effect upon the conscience can be temporarily removed, reminding the target - or beneficiary - of the full extent of his or her misdeeds, and making guilt and shame impossible to ignore. As any Darksider knows, it is possible to work past guilt again.
In the meantime, this can have several effects. Some take flight, running from their consciences. Some become enraged. Some - a significant fraction - see a need for repentance and redemption. Some are merely distracted, shocked and made to doubt. While it is callous to think of this technique in terms of tactical utility, it can often mean the difference between survival and death, and has certainly saved the life of Boolon Murr on several occasions.
To achieve maximum effect, the user of this ability must act out of concern for the soul of the target. It is related both to mentalism and to healing, and is best employed by those with skill in at least one of those areas. It has been popularized by the Open Hand of Light.
This ability does not work on those who have been afflicted with clinical sociopathy since childhood.
