The original, older version of the Drillarian Warfrigate was the most dangerous ship the Drillarian pirate regent had at his command. Carrying ion pulse missiles and heavy anti-fighter weaponry, they were able to make short work of most trade convoys without capital ship escort.
Its updated version - the first true Warfrigate - capitalised on its strengths using galactic technology. Point defense was improved even further, eight front-mounted ion cannons and a ventral turreted dual turbolaser added. Occasionally, the Warfleet makes use of of them for various duties. Their most prominent role however, and the one they excel at, is that of a - ironically - pirate hunter and police craft.
It's lack of a backup hyperdrive and short mission range usually prohibits ventures into deep space without additional backup. It does have resilient communication arrays however, and multiple backups of varied construction.
Also noteworthy is the excellent sensor equipment; a significant obstacle for any criminal or other enemy trying to avoid detection.
