History[]

Born Auden Ward, Vague's life started out as normal enough. His toddler years spent doing what kids did while his parents eked out an existence on the planet Omman Minor. His mother died young from a sudden illness and Vague was cared for by neighboring families while his father was away working. One day, that all changed. Unbeknownst to Vague, his father had betrayed the code of the Black Bha'lir and had been exiled from the secretive order. His father fled the Bha'lir and eventually joined the Mantis Syndicate. Vague, by association, was also blacklisted and this meant those who had been helping look after him were no longer allowed to and he had to learn from a young age to fight for scraps in the street.

He would wind up bouncing from one small time gang to the next in the slums of Omman's capital city until one day in 2 BBY he was arrested and brought before the local magistrate. Rather than prison, Vague would be sentenced to service within the Empire and would eventually end up training and becoming an Imperial Naval Commando.

His rough upbringing and street smarts served him well enough with the soldiering tasks - though Vague would constantly struggle with rules, regulations, and authority. If it wasn't for a few particular missions that caught the eye of a recruiter, he probably would have ended up busted down in rank and kicked out. Instead, after approximately four years of service in the Naval Commando's, he found himself being recruited into the ultra-specialized and highly secretive Asymmetrical Tactical Operations Group.

Vague was purpose built for ATOG, and he quickly become a highly regarded and sought after operative for undercover work. During his time with ATOG, Vague shut down multiple corrupt governments, syndicates, and cartels. In 12 ABY during an undercover mission to the jungle world of Borleais, Vague would meet a mercenary by the name of Aria Lonoter the two hit it off and despite it being a violation of his service to ATOG, Vague would maintain contact with Aria after the mission had ended. The two would form a long distance relationship and in 15 ABY their daughter Danique Lonoter was born.

In 17 ABY, Vague would be sent to infiltrate a group known as the Cularin Syndicate, which included a Duros by the name of Orev Masuda whom Vague would encounter again many years later under very different circumstances.

During another fateful operation, Vague would be called upon by ATOG to eliminate a particularly brutal sect of the Mantis Syndicate. While infiltrating this group, Vague would come face to face with his estranged father. His father urged Vague to leave the group - eluding to a sinister plot within the galactic government what permeated even the ATOG leadership. Vague saw this as only a desperate attempt to evade the consequences for his actions once again, and after his father urged him to trust no one, his father drew a pistol and Vague was forced to shoot the man. With his dying breath, Vague's father handed him an opulent coin with a pouncing Bha'lir engraved on one side, and ancient Socorran text on the other.

Overall, Vague would spend 16 years in service to ATOG, most of which was spent as an ATOG Vanguard working on his own or in very small groups and almost always undercover. On Vague's final mission with ATOG, he was dispatched to take down a sect of Malkite Poisoners. During the course of the operation, however, other members of the team began behaving strangely, and when Vague had to physically stop one of them from executing a young Kessurian girl, Rossi Hanlon, Vague discovered evidence of a very real and very deep seeded corruption within ATOG. He was forced to eliminate the remaining members of his team and after staging his own 'death', he fled with the girl.

He first traveled to Aria and Danique, where he had to explain to the love of his life that he wasn't actually Elexus Rei the Mercenary and that he'd been undercover for ATOG when they had first met. Aria, a deeply distrusting woman to start with, took this very poorly and especially after Vague told her of the danger he was in and that they too could be caught up in, she ultimately demanded that he never come near her or their daughter ever again.

Vague then returned to the stolen ship he and the Kessurian were using. While trying to figure out what to do next, the curious young girl grabbed at the coin that Vague's father had thrust upon him as he died. It caused vague to think back to that moment. To something his father had whispered. "Kodê, wê bi rûmet be." It was spoken in Soccoran, it loosely translated to 'The code, it will be followed'. Vague knew of the Bha'lir of course, anyone from the Kilbinni Sector did. But mostly what he knew was that they weren't to be trifled with.

With no other options, though, Vague took the Kessurian with him and sought out the secretive Bha'lir. During his eventual meeting, Vague would finally learn the truth of what his father had done and why his life had changed so drastically as a child. The Tribunal told Vague that his actions upon uncovering the corruption in ATOG were with accord to the Bha'lirs code, and that they had the power to erase the galaxy of Auden Wards existence. That they could grant him a new identity and ensure that those who had known him before would be safe. They even agreed to take in the Kessurian he'd brought along with him. There was, however, a catch. Vague would have to right his fathers wrongs, only after he had removed his families name from the Rites of Retribution could he be accepted back into the organization and be protected by their code.

It took Vague two years to eradicate the Mantis Syndicate, but in 20 ABY he was accepted into the Black Bha'lir and promoted immediately from Apprentice to Pilot. Due to Vague's skillset and previous experience he was assigned to work under Fenn Rizaar as an Enforcer of the Rites of Retribution. Vague would work in this capacity until 23 ABY when he had infiltrated a mercenary crew on a job with the intent of eliminating someone marked by the Rites. While on the job he would come across Orev Masuda, a Duros that he had spared during his work with ATOG in 17 ABY. The Duros recognized Vague but did not out him. However, another member of the Mercenary team betrayed all the others, selling them out to the Rinnrivin Di's Cartel who were in turn acting as a surrogate to the First Order.

Both Vague and Orev would be taken to a First Order prison and held there for three hellish years before Fenn Rizaar and some fellow Bha'lirs eventually broke them free. Having bonded during captivity the Duros opted to join up with Vague who in turn requested to resign his role as Enforcer and to instead begin smuggling for the organization instead. Vague was given permission to obtain and captain a ship, a Muurian Transport called the 'Novel Moniker', and he and Orev began to make a name for themselves as a reliable smuggling tandem.

With his previous success and recognition doing Enforcement work for the Bha'lir, it didn't take Vague long to garner enough attention and accolades to receive the prestigious title of Prince. After his promotion ceremony, Vague was taken aside by his mentor Fenn Rizaar and shown to a rundown hangar where Fenn would gift to him Vague's fathers old ship, a CST-877 Freighter. It had been confiscated along with his fathers effects once the man had been exiled, and per the code had been kept secure there on Socorro. Now it was Vagues.

It was at this time that the now grown up Rossi Hanlon would insinuate herself onto the crew. The Kessurian had been protected and raised in the Bha'lir society and trained in the arts of slicing and all things electronic. She would end up being the crewmember who first discovered SlackJaw, a seemingly derelict 79 Series Human Cyborg Relations droid. The droid had previously served with Vague's father who had illegally modified it.

Now with a capable craft, a full and diversely skilled crew, and the station of Prince offering him significant independence from the Bha'lir, Vague would set out on his own amongst the stars.

Personality and Traits[]

Vague has often been described as both a chameleon, and a ghost. His time spent in the Asymmetric Tactical Operations Group, coupled with his early life experience on the streets, has produced in him an uncanny ability to morph his appearance, demeanor, and voice to fit whatever type of character or archetype he deems necessary. He also has a near supernatural ability to blend into the background of any situation, to render himself utterly and completely forgettable to passers by.

Vague's true self is a cynic at heart. He has seen the worst dregs of the galaxy up close and personal, and that has left a permanent mark on him. That being said, he showcases a natural and effortless authority and possesses a pure heart. Vague will stop at nothing to protect those he cares about or considers under his watch. He is an adept observer and deceiver, but chooses to live his life by a strict code of honor.

Privately, Vague dresses in comfortable, practical, loose fitting attire. Usually three-quarter sleeve or longer tunics, often paired with a vest or jacket of some kind. He favors wide brimmed, low crowned hats when outside. Vague has several tattoos on his arms, shoulders, and back.
