"Make him doubt himself, his beliefs, or his intentions. Such things disrupt connections to the Force - and death soon follows."

DunMoch

Palpatine overpowers Yoda with Dun Möch.

Dun Möch is a form of combat that uses distraction and doubt, usually through taunting, in conjunction with lightsaber battle. It is used mostly by Darksiders, but some Lightsiders also make use of variations on the Dun Möch effect.

Dun Möch commonly involves spoken taunts, jeers, and jests that expose the opponent's hidden, inner weaknesses and/or doubts, which have the end result of eroding the opponent's will. Such a thing can be quite deadly, especially against Jedi, since concentration is a must when using the Force and doubts can easily break that connection.

Other variations on Dun Möch involve usage of the Force to throw large, weighty objects at an opponent during combat, which both distracts the opponent from the battle and can potentially cause damage.

Dun Möch can also harm the user if not carefully employed, causing their target to call upon hidden reserves to unexpectedly strike back. While this may have the effect of drawing a Jedi towards the Dark Side, the user faces the downside of fighting an opponent filled with renewed vigor, which can be especially deadly after a prolonged fight.

Some Jedi use what is informally known as an “Inverse Dun Möch” that is basically the very opposite of Dun Möch. The Jedi infuses their positive emotions through spoken words and actions to try and bring a Darksider over to the Light Side, or at the very least cause them to doubt using the Dark Side. However, other Jedi use regular Dun Möch to try and fight fire with fire, but this is heavily frowned upon by the Jedi Order.
