Keiko (66 BBY) is a girl haunted by the memories of a life she was forced to abandon. Like all members of her race she was born into the lush forests of Sylaria and raised by a patient mother and a loving father. She had a relatively normal Sylarian childhood until one day her parents were taken from her and she was forced to leave her beautiful home. Since then she has become bitter and cynical about life and the universe in general. Her master, though patient with her unpleasant attitude, has become greatly concerned about her well-being. Hatred is a path that leads to the dark side and Keiko's heart is filled to bursting with it.

Keiko, unlike most Sylarians, had long ago given up on the pacifism of her race. She can still inherently heal minor wounds with the touch of her hand and can even combine her Force techniques with her ability to control nature, but she has expanded her repertoire to include some more violent Force powers. Her years in exile have strengthened her resolve allowing her to pick up new Force techniques with relative ease. However, her bitter cynicism and dark outlook on the universe has left some concerns about whether or not she will stray from the path of the light.
Keiko was born in the capitol city of Sylaria, the largest city on the planet. Her birth, however, was unapproved and carried out in secret. Her parents, wishing to have a child of their own appealed to the Council of Elders to give birth. To their dismay their request was denied as the city had already had trouble sustaining its population as it was. Still determined to have a child the two disobeyed the order and gave birth to Keiko anyway. They managed to keep her existence a secret for a time, a fact that was made easier since the city was so large and there were so many people living in it, but eventually fate caught up with them.
It was discovered that Keiko's father had been appropriating extra funds for some unnamed project. The matter was soon looked into and the existence of a daughter revealed. As per Sylarian law the population had to be adamantly controlled, what few Sylarians there were had already done enough damage to the planet's ecosystems by building their cities and villages. So, the law was carried out to the letter and the family taken into custody. Keiko's parents were taken to the courts while she was banished from the planet never to see them again.
