Korriban Crystals are the name given to special alchemically treated crystals developed by Uvon Okdoro of the Cult of Shadow to siphon the Dark Side essence from the remains of the planet Korriban after it was destroyed by the third Death Star. The appearance of the crystals varies, but the one uniform trait that can be attributed to them is their reddish-glow. It is unknown exactly how many of the crystals have been created, but it is thought to be considerable as the cult wasted no time in taking advantage of Korriban's destruction.
Once the power is siphoned, it remains trapped forever in the crystal and can be used for a multitude of purposes, but were most commonly used to give members of the cult a significant boost to their power. One of the more well-known uses of the crystals was in Sivter's private meditation chambers, where they aided him in his visions and vastly enhanced his mental powers. It was said that while Sivter was in his chambers, nothing escaped from his notice and no secrets could be kept from him.
In addition to boosting a Darksider’s power, the crystals could also be used to power Dark Side devices – such as Sith amulets. They were integrated into the cult's Eradicator-class Droids, which allowed the droids to call upon and use the Force. It is even rumored that Sivter used a small crystal to power his lightsaber.
The crystals had an interesting secondary use as well since they could be powerful tools to corrupt Jedi and other Lightsiders to the Dark Side. Through a process known as blood bonding, the power of a crystal could be linked and integrated with a person’s own power. This would give them exclusive access to the crystal’s power, but at the same time the influence of the crystal would begin to taint who they were bonded to. The more powerful the crystal was, the greater its influence on the actions of the person it was bonded to.
Despite their wide use by the cult, most crystals were considered to be crude first products by Sivter as their power could be further enhanced by ancient Sith rituals. Such enhanced crystals were apparently rare as the only crystal known to have undergone this process was the one used by Sivter in his Sith amulet.
Although the crystals primarily served as powerful tools of the Dark Side, it was possible to purify them by using Force Light. If successfully purified, the crystals would become tools for channeling the Force in all its forms. A neutral crystal would be clear while a crystal channeling the Light Side would glow blue.
It's unknown how many of the Korriban Crystals survived the fall of the Cult of Shadow, but it's speculated that there are considerable caches still hidden in the ruins of the Shadow Temple on Arcanix.
