"Orders? Yeah, I’m not really into that whole ‘following orders’ thing."
— Laila
"Lucath says I ask too many questions. Nietdaeth says I don’t ask enough. I figure that means I’m doing just fine."
— Laila
"People underestimate Laila because she doesn’t act like a Jedi. That’s their mistake."
— Lucath

Jedi Knight Laila Darkflame was the daughter of Jedi Master Keira Darkflame. She was a member of the Brotherhood of the Twilight (part of the Jedi Order since 23 ABY).

She was trained by her mother, with the help of Lucath and Nietdaeth.

Keira always refused to answer who her father was, but Laila (and the rest of the Brotherhood) strongly suspected that her father was Lucath.

Background[]

Laila’s upbringing was anything but typical for a Jedi. Raised by former Sith who had turned their back on the dark side, her childhood was an unconventional mix of intense discipline and conflicting philosophies. Lucath and Nietdaeth, once feared Sith Lords, had found redemption after seeing the destructive path they had walked. However, their past still lingered, influencing their teachings in ways they didn’t always understand themselves.

Laila grew up learning about the Force not only through traditional Jedi teachings but also through the more... aggressive methods her teachers had once employed. Her sense of the Force was raw and untamed, often more instinctual than practiced. She learned to embrace chaos, accepting that emotions like anger and passion weren’t inherently evil, but only dangerous if they were allowed to control you.

Her training taught her to question everything, even the Jedi Council, which led to her sarcastic and cynical view of authority. She believed in individuality and doing things her own way, making her an unconventional Jedi at best. But her heart was still deeply connected to the light side of the Force. She had a strong sense of empathy and a deep desire to protect those who were suffering, even if it meant stepping outside the traditional boundaries of Jedi conduct.

Personality[]

Laila was a walking contradiction. On the surface, she could come across as chaotic, cynical, and sarcastic. She didn’t take herself too seriously and often used humor to deflect serious moments. She enjoyed bending the rules, finding creative, unexpected ways to handle problems — often with a cocky grin and a wink. Authority figures, especially those who take themselves too seriously, made her roll her eyes. She had little patience for politics, dogma, or the rigid systems that were supposed to keep things in check.

However, underneath that rough, rebellious exterior was a deeply empathetic soul. She could sense the pain of others with eerie accuracy, and while she might not always show it, she felt the weight of the galaxy's suffering. Her empathy drove her to protect those who couldn't protect themselves. Her sarcasm and cynicism, in many ways, were a defense mechanism — armor forged from a lifetime of straddling two conflicting worlds. She was fiercely loyal to her friends, though she might not always show it in the most conventional ways.

Her connection to the Force was unconventional too. While Jedi typically train to suppress emotion, Laila knew better — she embraced the chaos of the Force, channeling it with careful balance. She wasn't afraid to tap into the darker aspects of the Force when needed, although she did so with the awareness that it could lead her down dangerous paths. Despite the shadows of her past, she was determined to be a force for good, even if she didn't always play by the rules.

She shared a kinship with Lucath and Jenne Wulff, and they were quite close.

Despite her flaws, she was a strict adherent to the Jedi Code, and was fiercely loyal to the Brotherhood, and the Jedi Order in general.

Strengths[]

Empathy
Laila’s ability to understand the emotions and struggles of others made her an exceptional healer and compassionate leader, even if she hid it behind sarcasm.
Unconventional Combat Style
Drawing from both the graceful techniques of the Jedi and the aggressive, unorthodox tactics of her Sith upbringing, her lightsaber combat was fluid and unpredictable. She could catch enemies off guard with her quick thinking.
Resourceful
Whether it was talking her way out of a situation or using the environment to her advantage, Laila was highly resourceful and quick on her feet.

Flaws[]

Chaotic and Impulsive
Her refusal to follow rules or think things through often led to rash decisions. This impulsiveness could sometimes endanger herself or those around her.
Cynical
She often struggled to see the good in people or systems, believing that everyone had a hidden agenda. This could make it hard for her to trust others, even her allies.
Emotional Conflict
While she was adept at using the Force, she still struggled with the constant pull between light and dark, especially when faced with difficult moral choices. Her internal conflict could sometimes cloud her judgment.

History[]

Early Life[]

Laila was born in 19 ABY, within the walls of the Temple of the Twilight on Chalacta. From her first breath, she was surrounded by the Brotherhood and their loyal auxiliaries — a single spark of youth in a world of warriors and mystics. As the only child in the Temple for several years, she was doted on by nearly everyone... everyone except her mother, who remained cool and distant, a presence felt more than embraced.

In need of connection, Laila quickly latched onto Lucath, seeing in him the father she had never known. Their bond became the foundation of her early years. When Lucath’s daughters, Aran and Jenne, were born, Laila naturally stepped into the role of big sister, helping to care for them with a fierce and protective heart.

Training[]

At age twelve, Keira requested that Lucath and Nietdaeth oversee Laila’s training. What followed was a brutal regimen - harsh, unrelenting, and forged in the fires of two men who had once walked the path of the Sith.

Laila took to it with a vengeance. She thrived under pressure, meeting every demand with a stubborn grin and a burning determination. Her sessions with Lucath were the highlight of her days, no matter how grueling. Where others might have buckled under the weight of expectation, Laila only grew stronger, her spirit sharpening like a blade.

Jedi Knight[]

At nineteen, Laila completed her Trials and was formally recognized as a Jedi Knight. The Jedi Council offered her a prestigious place on Ossus, among the best and brightest of the new generation.

She declined. Her heart remained with the Brotherhood, with the family that had shaped her. Chalacta was her home - and she would stay to defend it.

Relationships[]

Keira Darkflame
Keira was never a warm mother, but despite this Laila never doubted her love. She hated that Keira wouldn't tell her who her father was, though.
Lucath
Having no father, Laila quickly latched onto Lucath. Lucath in turn treated her like his own daughters, and the two were very fond of each other. Laila often felt that of the entire Brotherhood, only Lucath and Jenne really understood her.
Jenne Wulff
Though she was three years older than Jenne, the pair had a lot in common and Laila always considered Jenne her sister, even if she wasn't.
Aran Wulff
Aran and Laila got along well - Aran being used to cold and cynical people, thanks to her father and sister - and Laila considered Aran her sister, even if she wasn't.
Leria Wulff
Laila and Leria got along well, and Laila considered her a favourite aunt. In turn, Leria considered Laila her step-daughter. They had very different personalities, but got along nonetheless.
