The Massacre on Vorzyd V saw vast swaths of the populace of the planet suddenly lose all common sense and attack anyone or anything near them. Few people realized at first that the cause for the madness was that the planet had been infiltrated by agents of the Cult of Shadow several years before the event and they had been implanting a specialized Mind Twist into innocent civilians so that a trigger word would be enough to make them snap and behave like mindless beasts.
The grand plan to use the planet as an example came from Sivter as part of one of his long-term schemes, but the actual operation to prep the population was carried out by another Dark Lord, known as Malasik.
By 17 ABY is was decided that Vorzyd V would be used to try and force Jedi Master Kalja Sairu Leidias to turn to the Dark Side. The operation was carried out by another of the cult's Dark Lords, Vok Ruvege, who Sivter trusted to enact his plan. Vok was successful in not only kidnapping Kalja, but cutting off her ability to use the Force unless she drew upon the Dark Side. He threatened to destroy the planet unless Kalja stopped him by using the Dark Side.
Kalja refused to give in, afraid of the kind of monster she'd become if all she had was the Dark Side. As punishment, Vok had his agents trigger the Mind Twist and started the now infamous massacre. By the time it was over, all of Vorzyd V's major cities were in flames and around 500 million people out of the planet’s roughly two billion population ended up dying in the massacre. Among the dead was the family of Elena Connor, causing the Jedi Knight to go rogue and attempt to go after Sivter and the Cult of Shadow on her own.
The largescale senseless death and destruction of the act elevated the threat level of the Cult of Shadow in the eyes of many galactic superpowers at the time, who had previously regarded the cult as a minor issue. It would mark a turning point in the War of Darkness for everyone involved.
