Production of the Patriot Class Heavy Cruiser began in approximately 15 ABY when the New Republic requested that XeroStar Corporation design a more modern Dreadnaught under the Warship Modernization Program. This particular Starship, like many of the designs which came from XSC was the workings of Cortana Deveraux, the Master Shipwright and CEO of XeroStar Corporation.
The ship was design specifically for Escort and Defense purposes, initially it was going to be similar to the Ragnarok Cruiser as a strike force Cruiser but that changed over the course of design. Able to contend with Imperial-class Star Destroyer Mark I on a firepower basis but outlast in the longer running battles. Having a similar contingent of fighters as the Imperial Mark I, the Patriot Class is a force to be reckoned with. Unlike the Imperial Star Destroyers which had to make room for landing craft and AT Barges, the Patriot was able to make additional room for escort fighters and bombers.
