"A charging Rolani is as intimidating as a stampeding bantha and just about as tough to put down."
— Anonymous Laro Empire Soldier

A relatively young race, there are few differences between a typical Rolani and baseline humans. If not for the somewhat harsh conditions on their homeworld of Rolan as well as a program of selective accelerated breeding, the Rolani might very well have never come into being.

Rolani were made for battle. They’re larger and stronger than most humans and can handle an inordinate amount of pain. Unless a Rolani is hit in a vital area, they’ll continue to fight until the battle is over. Injuries that could be considered debilitating to other races will barely faze them; even a mortal wound won’t necessarily slow a Rolani down. They’ve also developed some resistance to radiation as a necessity to block the large doses of solar radiation that bombard Rolan.

Rolani have a very martial society and there are very few who don’t serve in the military for at least part of their lives; most are lifelong veterans. Until the formation of the Laro Order, it was rare to see women in positions of power due to the tenants of Rolani culture. They weren’t prevented from taking jobs or serving in the military, just achieving positions of high status. After Queen Jesika Doljian’s rise to power, this glass ceiling was promptly shattered.

Highly pragmatic by nature, most Rolani have been quick to adopt this new way of thinking.

History[]

Akron Kro 001

A Rolani in the heat of battle.

The Rolani were originally descended from human settlers who colonized the Laro System but disagreed with the politics of Laro Prime. This group, which called itself the Brothers of Blood, were the source of an ideological schism who felt, among other things, that true security came through military force and that women came second to men. Rather than press the issue and ruin the work that had already begun on Laro Prime, the colonists agreed to a split. The Brothers of Blood, clearly in the minority, left to colonize nearby Rolan.

For over a century and a half, the Brothers of Blood worked towards achieving their ideal society. They were not content to wait for evolution to take its course and so began a government mandated breeding program. Only top physical specimens were allowed to reproduce, in many cases the fertilized eggs were transferred to laboratories so they could be genetically modified to enhance natural characteristics that were felt to be ideal. This program, coupled with Rolan’s higher than average gravity and weak ozone layer, resulted in the Rolani as they are known today.

The Brothers of Blood would eventually be wiped out after they tried to make a move against the newly formed Laro Order, however by then the Rolani were firmly established and no longer needed government programs to propagate their race.
