- "This is a TX-65 primary trainer. Every pilot in the Fleet took his first one hundred hours in one of these, and every new pilot probably will in the years to come."
- — Ackbar
The TX-65 X-wing Starfighter, more commonly known as the Trainer-X, is a starfighter in the service of the New Republic and is the primary starfighter used for educating trainees.
It is a direct variation of the far more common T-65 X-wing Starfighter, and is visually similar to its predecessor. However, it has a wider fuselage, large enough to sport a cockpit twice as large as the original T-65. This is meant for two pilots: a primary pilot and a mentor pilot, who observes the trainee, teaches him, and monitors the progress of the starfighter to attempt to prevent any catastrophic accidents.
The TX-65 X-wing sports four powered-down "dummy" training laser cannons, one on each of the wingtips of its four S-foils. It also had a hyperdrive. However, like the T-65D-A1 model, it lacks a spot for an astromech and instead relies on a dedicated computer system.
Although meant primarily for training, some TX-65's have been modified for actual combat. In such cases, the laser cannons operate at full power and the secondary pilot can act as a gunner.
