The YL series began its abbreviated production run in 45 BBY. It was one of several YT Series inspired lines that never quite managed to grab hold of the market like their predecessors had. Unlike the YV-Series, which was purposed as an improvement and replacement of the YT, the YL series of craft was purely meant as a supplemental line.
Hoping to build off of the momentum that the wildly successful YT craft had provided them, Corellian Engineering Corporation brought in several designers, and professionals from the various fields that transport craft were utilized in, and got to work designing new craft that were specialized for various fields, while still retaining the modularity that made the YT a household name.
Despite not possessing any specific drawbacks or mechanical flaws, the YL Series was discontinued after only a decade of production. Most credit its ultimate demise to a failure to properly advertise the individual craft, which were always designed for and intended to be sold to very specific niche markets. Due to the shortened run of the product line, these craft have become somewhat of a rarity, though a credit to CEC's workmanship many of the vessels still operate in the space lanes today.
